Today, there are different types of deep cycle batteries. As expected, each of these models is rated based on the amp hours. So, if you want to get one, you can find something that meets your requirements.

With this article, we will be looking at the 100Ah batteries or models that support up to 100 amp-hours. But instead of checking out all its features, we will focus on its lifespan and capacity.

How Long Will a 100Ah Battery Last?

A 100Ah battery will last anything from 12 months – 48 months. As for how long the 100Ah battery lasts on a single charge, you will have to divide the amp hours by the amount of current drawn.

Amp-hours or Ah are ratings used for deep cycle batteries. They are also described as the amount of current that a battery that supplies within a given period.

If you use a 100Ah battery, you should expect a lifespan of 12 months and above. However, the actual lifespan depends on several factors.

Factors that Affect the Lifespan of 100Ah Batteries

If you have several 100Ah batteries, there is a high chance that each of these items will have different lifespans. Most times, this scenario is caused by the following factors.

1. Age

Older batteries tend to have shorter lives. But if you use a new battery, you will get a longer lifespan.

2. Charging

Excess charging and discharge can also affect the life of a 100Ah battery. Even normal charging and discharges play a role in battery life. Normally, such habits might result in higher or lower lifespans.

3. Care

If you take care of your 100Ah battery, you should expect more service life. However, a similar but damaged battery cannot endure long-term use.

4. Temperature

The temperature of the battery also determines the lifespan of a 100Ah battery. Extreme cold and heat can cause problems for your battery while room temperatures are ideal for extending the life of the cell.

5. Type of Battery

If you have a lithium battery, you will enjoy more years than using most other types of batteries. When it comes down to it, lithium batteries enjoy more durability and offer a long lifespan.

How Long Does a 100Ah Last on a Single Charge?

There isn’t any fixed number for the runtime of a 100Ah battery. When it comes down to it, the time depends on the amount currently used then.

To calculate how long a 100Ah battery will last, you should use the following formula:

Discharge Time = Amp Hours/Current

Let’s say we want to find how long a 12V AGM 100Ah battery with a current draw of 0.7A will last.

Discharge time = Amp Hours/Current

Discharge Time = 100Ah/0.7A

Discharge Time = 142.86 hours

So, if you have a 12V AGM 100Ah battery with a current draw of 0.7A, the battery will last for 142.86 hours.

Apart from the current and amp hours, other factors can affect the runtime of a 100Ah battery. These factors include the charging, the health of the battery, temperature, and usage.

How Can I Make a 100Ah Battery Last Longer?

As with most batteries, it is possible to extend the life of a 100Ah battery. With the following tips, you can get extra years from your cell.

Tip 1: Avoid cheap battery chargers as they can damage any type of battery. Instead, visit a hardware store and find a model that suits your battery.

Tip 2: Try to charge the battery properly. During the process, ensure that the battery does not overcharge as this activity can affect the battery’s performance.

Tip 3: Do not store batteries for long periods. If you want to maintain these devices, use and charge them. When it comes down to it, inactivity can have negative impacts on the service life of a 100Ah battery.

Tip 4: If you are using batteries in a series, do not match 100Ah batteries with other models. You should also ensure that all batteries come from the same brand.

Tip 5: If you have to store a  100Ah battery, consider using a dry, cool area. Also, ensure that you don’t keep the battery for extended periods.

Wrapping Up

The lifespan of a 100Ah battery depends on many factors. For this reason, we have 100Ah batteries with varying years of service life. However, most of these models exceed 12 months.

If you want to find the lifespan of a battery on a single charge, try using the earlier-mentioned formula. As expected, various batteries will also offer different runtimes.
